Duke Power sold 1,600 acres of former India Hook Hills land to Charlotte's Ervin Company in 1970, and Tega Cay was built that year as a gated Lake Wylie community; residents didn't vote to incorporate as a municipality until July 4, 1982, a dozen years after the first houses went up.
